Best In Region Skytrax Survey Questions
20th Annual Avion Awards

The World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) is issuing a call for participation in the 20th Annual Avion Awards competition honoring excellence in inflight entertainment ( IFE). Airlines from around the world are invited to participate in the inflight entertainment industry’s principal competition recognizing the leaders in IFE. Passenger online voting for airline IFE top choice will occur May through June 2008 and the award winners will be announced at the WAEA Annual Conference & Exhibition in Long Beach 8-11 September, 2008.
Airlines
will be judged in one of four categories:
Best
in Region:
• Americas
• Europe
• Middle East and Africa
• Asia and Australasia
There will be two global Best
Overall IFE awards:
• Small airlines – up to 25 IFE-equipped in fleet
• Large airlines – over 25 IFE-equipped in fleet

Best Achievement
in Technology

airline or vendor — is eligible.
A jury of peers comprised of representatives from each part of the IFE community (airline, hardware, software, distributor, lab, and service company) will evaluate the submissions and determine the award recipient.
• Best Single Achievement in IFE — open to all WAEA member airlines. Any airline wishing to enter this category must submit a 1,000-word description of any IFE achievement they have accomplished within the previous 12 months (1 June 2007 - 31 May 2008). This accomplishment can be hardware, software, or content-related.
A jury of peers comprised of representatives from each part of the IFE community (airline, hardware, software, distributor, lab, and service company) will evaluate the Best Single Achievement in IFE submissions and will determine the top 5 airline finalists.
The 5 chosen finalists are required to make a ten minute presentation of their Best Single Achievement in IFE to a panel of seven judges on the day prior to the start of the WAEA Annual Conference. Please make your travel plans accordingly if you are selected as a finalist. In addition to the presentation to the judging panel, the 5 selected finalists must also present to the membership as part of the opening session on the Monday morning. You will have 10 minutes to present your Best Single Achievement in IFE.
Last year, more than 30 airlines competed for the Avion mark of distinction and more than 36,000 passengers worldwide rated airline performance in IFE and selected their favorites. Passengers expressed their opinions using an online survey administered in various languages by Skytrax, the leader in airline passenger opinion studies
Airlines may register online to participate in the Awards at www.waea.org beginning 1 March. There is no charge to enter the competition and the deadline to register is 18 April 2008. Once registered, airlines are encouraged to promote their participation to passengers using inflight guides, magazines, passenger lounges, or announcements onboard directing them to cast their votes nline. Skytrax will collect and assess passenger feedback over a two-month period and finalists will be selected.

**Please note that if you are selected as a finalist you will need to provide WAEA Headquarters with a DVD - R containing 10- 30 seconds of any visual relating to the airline. This can be aircraft in flight/IFE show reel/product demo reel, standard marketing video or commercial. We will also need a usable airline logo in jpeg format if you are an airline finalist.
